A bridge is made to replace one or more missing teeth. A traditional bridge is made by creating a crown for the teeth on either side of the space and placing a false tooth or teeth between the crowns. The crowns, sometimes called caps, can be supported by natural teeth or by implants.
In addition to strengthening a damaged tooth, a bridge can be used to improve a tooth’s appearance, shape, alignment and bite. Gaps left by missing teeth can cause the remaining teeth to shift, which can result in a malaligned bite. A bridges helps prevent this from happening.
Getting a bridge requires at least two visits. At the first visit, Dr. Straka will prepare the teeth and cover them with temporary crowns. He will also make impressions of the teeth. On the second visit, the bridge is placed permanently.
